Dr. Joohee Im Sanders is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise Science at Shippensburg University, PA. After obtaining her M.S. in Exercise Science at Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA, she served as an exercise physiologist in Sport Science and Technology division at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, Lake Placid, NY. During her tenure, she developed her research skills and interest in O2 kinetics and metabolic function using Near-infrared Spectroscopy.Her research continued in Dr. Britton Chance’s laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, where she studied mitochondrial function and blood flow of muscle tissue in healthy as well as diseased population. In 2007, she earned her Ph.D. in Kinesiology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. Since she arrived in Shippensburg University in 2008, Dr. Sanders has been actively engaging undergraduate students in research and presenting their work at regional and national ACSM meetings. Aside from her main role in teaching and academic advising, she also serves as a chair for the technology committee.Dr. Sanders has been an active member of national as well as regional ACSM since 1997 and has been involved with the ACSM Non-invasive Interest Group. In the last two years, she has also served MARC-ACSM as a board member (member-at-large) in which she was a co-chair for the Expo committee and assisted in the preparation of MARC-ACSM annual meetings. Dr. Sanders welcomes the opportunity to continue to work for MARC-ACSM as she truly enjoyed her experience.
